Password not being accepted?
-
Hello there,
I do the design work for this blog, but the old site (at reynardcity.co.uk) is also a WordPress site (used to be run by someone else) but the log-in no longer works any more. I have the username and password but it says that it does not work any more, and when I try and get another password it does not work…
Page where it rejects the email and username:
http://www.reynardcity.co.uk/wp-login.php?action=lostpasswordSo I’m not sure what to do now. The password has definitely not changed, and I was able to log-in a few months ago, but now am unable to get into the site. If an admin wants to contact and find out what I think the log-in details are, or any information they may want, then let me know?
Any help appreciated. Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. You are referring to a self-hosted WordPress.ORG blog and are in the wrong forum. Please ask your question at http://wordpress.org/support
You are currently in a WordPress.COM forum and our answers will not apply to your situation. Thanks and I hope you find a solution to your problem soon.

Hi,
I am having the same problem as above with my site http://schuylersokolow.com/ I’m unable to login on the wordpress.org/support site to ask the question, and I don’t know where else to get help. My password is not working, and the password reset email is not going to my email address. I’m worried my account is compromised because I’ve never changed the contact email address. Please let me know what information I need to give you in order to reset my password.
Thank you!

I’m afraid we cannot help you at all if your site is self-hosted. You have to create a new login on the WordPress.org site. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are entirely separate, even the support forums.

Most likely the new password is going to the other person since you probably didn’t go to settings > general and change the admin email address.
Do a search at .ORG forums and you will find probably no less than 1000 threads explaining how to change the username and password by going into phpmyadmin and changing it in the database. You will need access to phpmyadmin, which is typically done through the cPanel. Hopefully you have the username and password for the cPanel.

One other thing: make sure after you change the username and password, that you go to settings > general and change the admin email right away to either yours or the site owners so that any further username/password issues can be avoided.

I am the site owner, though. Unfortunately I have 0 code experience and don’t understand what any of the above means. I really appreciate the suggestions, but does anyone know how to explain the above in layman’s terms, or have another idea?
