Password problem

  • Unknown's avatar

I apparently have wordpress.org; however, I can NEVER sign into wordpress.org using my password. But I can sign into wordpress.com with the same password. I thought I had this straightened out but still get error message. I know this seems like a petty problem, but not being able to sign into your account is very VERY aggravating.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

You have a WordPress.com account, which you’re using to post here. And then your site has its own admin account with unique credentials, stored on your hosting provider’s servers. The two are completely separate.

You have a WordPress.com account because you have your self-hosted site connected to this account via the Jetpack plugin. But we have no access to your admin account on your site. It sounds like that’s the one you’re having trouble with, correct?

To get back into your admin account for the site, you can find the instructions for the version of WordPress you’re using at https://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password, or your hosting provider should also be able to help.

A WordPress.org account is something completely different again from the other two accounts, and I’m guessing you don’t even have one of those yet. The only reason to have a WordPress.org account is to post in the WordPress.org forums or to contribute to building that software. If you’ve never done those things, you likely won’t have an account there – having an account on WordPress.org is not a requirement for having a WordPress.org site.

I hope that clarifies things for you, but please let me know if it doesn’t.
