  Is there a way to password protect would administration directory? How does one check for any and all updates to wordpress software and plugins?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  How does one check for any and all updates to wordpress software and plugins?

  -WordPress.com users won’t find a Plugins tab in the Dashboard
  -WordPress.com users can not use plugins.
  http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/

  -On WordPress.com blogs the updates are automatic and users should do nothing.
