password-protect blog?
-
Hi all.
I am setting up a photo blog that I would like to password protect so only friends and family can see it. None of them are WP Users so I can’t easily add them to the Privacy list.
How can I PW-protect the entire blog?
-
you can achieve this by going to settings > Privacy >
Option “I would like my blog to be visible only to users I choose” -
No, because my friends and family are NOT users.
If I set that up, it asks for a Username, but also a password.
I am trying to make it accessible to my parents (for instance) with a simple username and/or password combo. I’m not trying to make it super-secure, just to limit the access somewhat.

But that is exactly how the private blog scheme works. They have to sign up to get the username/password (as they would for any scheme of this kind) and then they just have to log in to see your blog. I don’t understand how you think this could get simpler? You don’t have to have a WP.com blog to have a WP.com username and password.

Send them to http://wordpress.com/signup/ (you have to be logged out to see it properly). They choose a username and password, fill in their email address and agree to the terms of service. They can check either the box to create a blog, or just to have a username. That’s it. It’s really not complicated and for any kind of password scheme, it’s not going to get any simpler than that.
