Password-protected blogs still send email with full text of blog posts
-
There was a blog that used to be public (and that I followed/subscribed to when it was public — the address of that blog is https://pinemountainwalker.wordpress.com/ , if it helps)
Anyway, I just got an email notifying me of a new post from this blog.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I wanted to respond to this blog by comment, so I clicked to Comment…but WordPress says it’s a protected blog. I requested access from the site owner, but I just wanted to ask if that’s a bug that I can receive the full text of new posts from this person if they put their blog as protected.

Hi there,
It looks like the site in question was set to public when that post was published, and set back to private immediately thereafter. Only the site owner would know why they did that, but the email did not go out in error.
Thanks for reporting, though.
Also note that there’s a difference between private and password protected sites. Private sites can only be accessed by people who have been invited to, and they don’t send out email notifications to anyone who followed the site when it was still active, unless that person is also a viewer on the site.
On the other hand, you can password-protect individual posts on a public site. For those you will receive an email, but you’ll need to visit the site and enter the password to read the posts.
