Password protected page not working for some
-
Password protected page is not accepting the password for SOME users. Others are able to get in. I’ve asked them for their browser thinking that might be the issue. I don’t see anything current on these pages about this so I’m wondering what the solution is for the people who can’t get in.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Are you sure that these people are using the password that you provided them and not their WordPress.com password? That is a common mistake for people who haven’t used password protected pages much.
-
Thanks for the response. They say they are using the password I gave them and have checked the case. I think it’s odd that 2 out of the 50 or so people that have been given the password cannot get in. I am going to ask them to copy and paste it instead of attempting to type it in. My best guess is that it is user error, but they are fighting that idea.

Still having problems with 2 people. Both have tried different browsers and copying and pasting the password. They input the password and it tries and goes back to the password screen.
Could there be something in their cookies, cache, or internet settings that is preventing them?
-
Clearing cookies and cache is always a legitimate thing to try.
And just to be clear, they are able to log into their WordPress.com accounts correctly at http://WordPress.com itself?
-
I would doubt they would have wordpress accounts. This is just for a password protected page on our website.

I think I’ve gotten most of the users on with either changing their browser or finding user error.
However, I have verified an error with opening the password protected page on an iPhone 5. The user and myself are just cycled back to the password page. Is this a known issue? Any work arounds?

Interestingly, I tested on two phones this last weekend – one I could get in, the other not.

I apologize for the delay in replying. I had a few days off and was actually fishing the Cheakamus up in BC. Somehow your thread slipped through the cracks of my collegues who were covering for me.
Back to the issue at hand. I cannot replicate the issue on my iphone 5s. I am able to log in without issue. Were the phones you tested all iphone 5’s? Were they all updated to the most recent iOS version? Also, there is always the WordPress iOS app if for some reason there is a phone that just will not work with the password protected page.

Hi,
Hope you’re well out there in cyberspace. My issue is as follows: The password for my protected content is disabled every time I access the content from my computer to view updates. This forces me to reset with a new password. Is this supposed to happen or is it a glitch in the matrix? If yes, I’m finding it quite frustrating after half a dozen resets. Please advise how to fix this :)
Thank you!

Do you mean that once you have logged in to see a password protected page on your computer, it then doesn’t ask you to log in the next time you visit the page?
-
-
In other words, it doesn’t ask for the password. I still have to log in to my site’s dashboard, but the password protected content is no longer password protected!
-
If you have EVER put in the password on that computer, and your computer is set up to store cookies, you will not be asked for the password, because WP can see your computer already put that in. It is local to your computer.

I thought exactly the same thing, so I tried it on another computer and it was still unprotected :(
