I have some information – family history and photos, for example, which I would like to share with family only. Can I create password protected pages that family members without a wordpress account can view?
I created a site and password-protected pages. My first viewer could not access the content without creating a wordpress account. Is that correct? Did they or I do something wrong?

Hi there,
When you set your site to be “private” that locks down all pages on the site, but to access them the person who visits must be
- Invited by you specifically
- Log in to their WordPress.com account to see the site
If you prefer to not require everyone to have their own account to access the site, you can instead “password-protect” certain pages, and then give the password to the people you think need access (possibly by emailing them directly)

I should have been clearer.
My site & pages are not private.
They are password protected.Users tell me they are prompted to create an account.

Hi David,
There’s no need for someone to create an account to view your password protected content. All they have to do is enter the password. You can test that yourself if you visit one of your password protected posts in a private browsing window.

I tried that.
It asks me for my account information.
I must have something wrong.
The home page and all linked pages are password protected.
I’ll have to go over them all again.
