Password protected selected but NO password prompt and fully visible
-
I set up a menu to be password protected but after initial success the password prompt box has disappeared and the contents are fully visible again.
The title is prefixed by “Protected:” and the menu is still described as password protected in the page settings.
How can resolve this please?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi tevershamplaygroup,
I set up a menu to be password protected but after initial success the password prompt box has disappeared and the contents are fully visible again.
We don’t provide the option to password protect menus, only posts and pages. When a visitors enters the correct password, it is saved as a cookie and the content will remain visible until they close their browser.
I can’t see any password protected posts or pages on tevershamplaygroup.wordpress.com. Can you confirm where you set the password?
Thanks!

Hello Gemma,
Thank you so much for your prompt reply, it is much appreciated.I am happy to password protect individual pages rather than the whole menu, so this is not problematic.
I currently have the “Staff resources” page/menu (forgive me, I am not experienced in IT), set as password protected and it is this displays as “Protected: Staff resources” when I open it.
Thanks again,

Hi Helen,

That’s correct — the password protected message should disappear once you’ve entered the password you chose for that page. Are you still able to see that message after entering the password?

This is my problem. There is no longer anywhere on the actual page to type the password.
When I log in to WordPress the password is always visible in the settings menu. I have tried resetting the page and changing the status from password protected to public and vice versa but nothing doing.

Hi Helen,
This is my problem. There is no longer anywhere on the actual page to type the password.
I see what is happening — no content has been added to the “Staff Resources” page. When the password is entered for a post or page, it is ‘unlocked’ but the protected heading remains in place. It looks like the page hasn’t been unlocked because that heading is in place and there is no content to display.

What can I do to resolve this? I removed the previous content before publishing the website to protect it. I’ve added some text to see if this helps but so far, no joy!

I’m sorry to bother you, but I still haven’t been able to resolve this issue.
Is there anything you can advise me to do?
Many thanks -
Hi tevershamplaygroup and gemmacevens,
Sorry to jump in here, but @tevershamplaygroup are you talking about the Staff Resources page or the Policies & procedures page as I do see the Password field on the Staff Resources page.
This is what I see – https://pasteboard.co/H6TdTmx.png

Hello epoolman,
Thank you for your help.
I have decided to concentrate on the Policies & procedures page but I can’t see the password field in either on my computer!Your ‘pasteboard’ is exactly what I am hoping to see.
Thanks,
Helen -
I see it on the Policies page as well now. Can you clear your browser cache and see if that will work for you – https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache
