Password protecting blog page
-
I’d like to password protect my blog page . . . but it’s not my front page. I’ve tried adding password protection to just that page alone, and that works on every other page, but not on this page . . . it still shows all of my blog posts.
Ideas? Or do I just scratch the whole public site and private blog in one thing?

I believe that you are confusing blog “pages” and blog “posts”. The two are quite different (see link below).
You can password protect any “post”.
You can also password protect your whole blog. From the FAQs

Maybe I am confusing it. But here’s what I’ve done . . . gosh, I can be dense sometimes.
I’ve got a page set as my home page. I’ve also got a portfolio, about and blog page.
I’ve choosen for the post page to be my Blog. The page was password protected . . . until I chose it to have the posts on it. Is this unavoidable?

I’m sorry to say that I don’t understand what your are saying or how to help you.
Do you wish the entire blog to be a private blog with posts that are only visible to the users you choose to register? If so then why would you bother with password protection on your blog posts?
I’m going to let another blogger try and help you with this — best wishes.

Gah, I’m even confusing myself.
I’d like to have the page with the blog on it as a private page, but everything else public. Does that make sense?
-
I’ve been thinking about this and wondering if it wouldn’t be a better approach to simply have a second blog that clients aren’t privy too. What I’m thinking is that the “protected” post message may be a turn-off.

What I’m thinking is that the “protected” post message may be a turn-off. But if you had another “private” blog then this “public” one with your Portfolio and About page as well as Contact Page wouldn’t have the possibility of making people wonder why they couldn’t read whatever information it is that you are protecting.

True, but I’m not really offering this up for clients yet . . . don’t even have my drivers permit, kind of hard to run a photography business. *grin* But, yes, that does sound like a good idea . . .

I’m glad you thought it was a good idea. We can have as many blogs as we want at wordpress.com. :)
