Password Protecting Specific Pages/Posts

I understand how to password protect an entire blog, which seems to work for the “all or nothing” approach.

I understand how to password protect a specific page or post, but leave the rest of the blog visible, which seems to work if you want most of the blog visible to everyone, and a few posts password protected.

But what about the opposite? That is, is there an easy way to password protect most of the blog, but leave one or two posts visible (short of editing every single post and page and creating a password for them)?

If so, does anyone know how?

If not, does anyone have experience with what password protecting most of the blog might look like from a user’s perspective? For those readers who already have access to most of the blog, I don’t want them to hit a password prompt every time they visit a new page or post of my blog, but it seems that this would be the logical outcome. If the passwords for the protected pages/posts are all the same, can users store that password in their browser (or will it be stored in a cookie) the same way a password for an entire blog would be stored?

I realize this is a convoluted problem, so thanks in advance for any help.
