Password Protection help

  Hello ~

  I have posted a password protected entry at my blog and sent the link with the password to several friends. Only two people of 25 has been able to access the entry. They have copied and pasted the password I gave them, they have typed it in themselves, they have tried with a variety of capital letters and such – nothing works.

  This has happened before which is why I stopped using the password protected entries, but I forgot.

  What might be preventing my friends and family from getting past the password page?

  Your emails might be in rich text format, in which case certain characters won’t translate properly when copy/pasted. Only the password with correct capitalization will work, of course.

  Try using only letters and numbers with no special characters or punctuation. Special characters and punctuation can get messed up depending on the character encoding set on your email program and it also depends on the character encoding set on the receiving end. Character encoding settings on individual browsers can come into play as well, especially if something is copied and pasted.

  Thanks. The password is two simple and common words to avoid misspelling and confusion. They have all tried both typing it in and copy/paste. Their typing it in should work, but it’s not working for some.

  Might it be an issue of cookies or a cache thing?

  Some of these are very smart people and there’s no reason that they can’t type in two words. I’m not convinced that the trouble is with the password or the individuals. What else might be the problem?

  It could be. But telling a bunch of people to do a cache and cookie clear and restart isn’t easy. Also, can they see the rest of your blog just fine? Some places don’t allow people to read blogs at work, etc.

  Yes, they are all able to see the rest of the blog it is just the password thing that’s causing them trouble. The last time I did a password protected entry a few people had trouble but not nearly as many as now. I did suggest the cache and cookie clear and after that a few more were able to access it. Still, there are a few that can’t. Strange.
