password recovery

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, I just recently bought a new domain name and Hostgator cloned my old domain name with my new one that I bought. Everything is good to go. Well I went to log into wordpress and the password that I have both saved on my computer and written down did not work. So I wen to recover my password and put in my email, I never received an email the two times I asked. So I called customer service and I was told I need to pay $39.00 to reset my password? I am very confused about that? Not to mention I still never got an email asking to reset my password as I requested.

  • Hello there, could you share your site address?

Hello, I just recently bought a new domain name and Hostgator cloned my old domain name with my new one that I bought.

Where did you buy your new site? If it’s not from WordPress.com, then most probably you’re having a self-hosted WordPress site.

So I called customer service and I was told I need to pay $39.00 to reset my password?

First of all, WordPress.com doesn’t have a phone number that you can call. Free plan users get support from this forum and paid plan users can get help from Live Chat and private email.

Secondly, I never see any of the Staff from WordPress.com asking for payment to reset a password for a user. On top of that, reset password can be done by the user unless it’s an account recovery request, which is free as well.

So, I think you might want to continue liaising with your new hosting provider or you could seek from the experts and volunteer members at WordPress.org forum. You may need to register an account if you don’t already have one.

Please be informed that the staff and members of this forum could only help you out with support topics related to WordPress.com sites but not self-hosted WordPress sites as they’re separate entities and independent from each other.

Hope your issue will get resolved soon!
