  I have gotten an invitation to access our new website from the website manager. when I try to reset a password the response is that the website does not recognize my email address

  Can you confirm that you are referring to http://www.nymetroashi.org/?

  If so, it appears that your website uses the self-hosted version of WordPress (hosted by Unified Layer) rather than WordPress.com, which is what this forum is designed to help with. Note the difference here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  You may be able to find help here: https://wordpress.org/support/
