Password reset email

We have received over 100 password reset emails in the past 48 hours. No one in our organization submitted the requests to reset the password. 1) I want to make sure our site is secure and no can get access and 2) I want to stop receiving these emails from whoever is making the request. Any help would be appreciated!

  • Hi –

So long as you are the only person with access to the email address associated with your account, then yes, it’s ok.

All this means is someone is trying to gain access. There’s nothing you can do to prevent someone from trying to do this.

    A few security tips:

    1. change your WordPress.com user password now, and enable 2 factor authentication on the account.

    2. be certain, no body else has access to your WordPress.com credentials.

    3. change the password to your email account and enable 2 factor there as well.

If the emails continue, consider setting up a new email address to assign to your WordPress.com account. That change can be made at https://wordpress.com/me/account/

Here’s the 2 factor authentication information for the WordPress.com account: https://en.support.wordpress.com/security/two-step-authentication/

Hi – Thanks for your response! Do you know if there’s a glitch in the WordPress system that would be causing this to happen? The volume of reset emails makes me think perhaps this is a system error? Thanks!

  • I haven’t seen any other reports to indicate that it’s an internal glitch.
