Password Reset ********** show hide password
-
I would like to know why when I went to reset my password, it defaulted to SHOW my password as I typed it. That is AWFUL and I am shocked.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
That is not a free hosted WordPress.com blog. We do not provide support here at WordPress.COM for any installs of WordPress.ORG software. We provide support only for free hosted WordPress.COM blogs being hosted right here on this multiuser blogging platform.
WordPress.com and WordPress.org have different log-ins and run different versions of themes with same names. If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

i didn’t even write “The blog I need help with is http://www.jacobraccuia.com.” it came up automatically. I don’t need support, I want to know why when I reset my password at wordpress.com it defaults to show it.
-
That could be because you have you clicked the “remember me” link previously.
If you believe you have a security issue it’s best if don’t post potential security issues publicly to this forum. You can either use this form – http://automattic.com/security/ – or email security @ wordpress.com (without the spaces).
-
I will email security, can you delete this post? I don’t want it here. I thought I was emailing someone.
THanks!

Oh PIFFLE! I am multitasking from my business and I was distracted when I answered you the second time. DO
I am back to you and telling you not to use that link because as I correctly pointed out in my first comment that blog is NOT being free hosted by WordPress.COM.
You are barking up the wrong support tree.

I am fully aware of the difference. I had to link my wordpress.com account to my personal .org blog, so I could use Jetpack. I did not know my wordpress.com password, so I went to reset it at wordpress.com.
When I reset my password, it had me type my new password in. I started typing, and it didn’t ***** my password. It displayed it. I’m sitting in class, and am furious about it as anyone behind me could see it.
-
Like ,there’s an option to “hide” your password or “show” it, on the wordpress.com reset password link, and it defaults as “showing” it.

I’m not sure why you are. It has nothing to do with Jetpack.
It has to do with the wordpress.com reset password page. Go reset your account password to see what I”m talking about.

Hi there,
I’m sorry to hear that you are not a fan of the password reset having the option to display your password and having it default to that option. You will notice that the “Hide” button is quite large and clear right next to the reset field.
There have been discussions to switch the default from displayed to hidden, however it is not something which has been definitively decided upon at this time.
-
It just goes against the default User Expectation when entering a password, ever.
I don’t think the “show” password option is a bad idea, but why default to something that goes against the norm?
Even though the hide button is large, ( it really is large ), because I wasn’t expecting it, I didn’t even consider to click it. I just went ahead and typed.
Post on ux.stackexchange.com and see what they say :)
