password to the whole blog

    Hi
I run a blog that hosts videos of my pupils. I would like it to be viewable only by people who have a password. Basically i want the blog to be read only by the teachers and pupils who i actually gave the password to so it remains a blog that is viewed by people who are entitled to (related to my school only). How can do this please? I can’t really invite all the puils (500 hundred of them…) but i would like to be able to just hand them all a piece of paper with the password on it so they can connect to it and watch the videos and things. i just don’t want random people to see it. It’s a matter of my pupils right to their own image if you see what i mean, restrictingthe access to legit people (pupils and their parents) makes sense and is more reassuringto me as far as my responsibility is concerned. Can i do this and why? Thank you so much. Michel (from France)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. Unfortunately there is no way to password-protect an entire blog.

You can password-protect individual posts and pages, but you’ll need to set a password for every single post and page individually: http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/#password-protect-a-post

The only other option is to set the blog to private. That way you will need to invite every person that needs access, and they will all need to create their own WordPress.com username accounts (they don’t have to register blogs if they don’t want to) to be able to accept the invitations. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
