paste into blog entry from word
-
didn’t wordpress used to have a ‘add from word’ menu choice? i swear it did. your help pages indicate that we should download Windows Live Writer. looks way too complicated.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
We have updated the editor and removed the “paste from Word” button. Instead, you should be able to copy and paste from Word directly into the Visual editor in your WordPress.com dashboard without needing to use the button.
-
But if one can only do it that way, none of the hyperlinks or styles are there, and one has to build them in step by agoizing step. Quite useless.
Also, can you tell me how to make a Contact Me button?
-
and why on earth did removing it get considered ‘an update’? what is the benefit, in other words? certainly not to those of us who paid good money for our websites, so that we might tweak them to our own desired usefulness, so i must assume it was beneficial for WordPress itself? financially?

This was a change made across all of WordPress, both on WordPress.com and for self-hosted blogs to make the copy/paste process simpler for everyone. Your formatting should transfer over, although some users who have Firefox on a PC were noting that there were some snags. You might try using Chrome or even the newest version of IE to see if that works better for you.
-
‘Easier for everyone’; hmmm. people were complaining and didn’t go look at the blogging help you offer?
as i said to begin with, the formatting doesn’t transfer over, which is why i contacted you. yes, it turns out that when i use chrome, it seems to be there.
but i use firefox rather than chrome because i loathe the others, as well as their creators (gates and schmidt). so…i pay something like $130 a year to be forced into using chrome? have you folks not been following the nsa/fbi revelations that show how complicit google is in surveillance of the citizenry?
not to be disrespectful, but i am *not* happy if i am left with that false choice, jackiedana. seriously.
firedoglake, i believe, is what you call a ‘stand alone’ wordpress site, and the ‘copy from word’ was there last time i cross-posted there.

I am very sorry if you’re not happy with the new editor options. Generally speaking, users with Firefox haven’t had any problems, but a few have, so it could be an issue with your extensions. You might try turning off all of your extensions to see if that helps.
It’s possible that the other site you referenced is not running the most current version of WordPress.
-
checking the extensions is worth a thought, but unfortunately that infernal adware/malware geneio has taken over my firefox and IE, and i’ve spent endless hours trying to remove it…to no avail. so, no way to check.
i’ll just have to hope enough other folks complain, and that you’ll add the ‘paste from word’ choice back.

If you’re running into other issues with your browsers, then that could very well be the issue.
I hear your concerns about using Google products, but you might give Chrome a try if you’re having problems with Firefox. Generally speaking, it works really well across all websites and lots of people find it to be a lot faster generally.
In the meantime, I’d strongly recommend that you try reinstalling a clean copy of Firefox to see if that works better for you.
-
heh. getting a ‘clean copy’ of firefox is where i picked up the genieo and about a dozen crap malware and adware apps (or whatever one calls them); took me loads of time to clean the others out. geneio is persistant as hell.
i’ll just have to use geneio’s copy of chrome to post for now, hope you add the paste from word option back some day.

Are you downloading your browsers directly from Google/Mozilla?
We have a page where you can find the most up-to-date browsers here:
http://browsehappy.comIf you remove an existing browser and all related files and then install it fresh, you shouldn’t have problems with unwanted extensions. If your computer has malware beyond browser extensions, that’s another issue.
