pasting a text

  • Unknown's avatar

I paste a plain text into block editor.
The single line text without a dot is transfered to the code block.
Even if it is not any code!

Then I try to change the type of the block to normal text.
    It is impossible.

What do you think about it?

  • Hi, I’m not sure I follow.

Could you paste the text on pastebin or a similar site, and then also share a link to the post you tried to paste that into?

    I don’t undeerstand you.
Try to write simple sentences, please, I am not a english native.

    Hi Staff

    I don’t understand you.

  • Hi,

What is the title of the post you are working on?

Please also share that piece of text you are pasting so we can have a look.

    Hi,

    there are two screnshots here:

First – any text pasted in block editor, showing two words were converted into code:

Second, if I wish to change this situation, there is no way in menu:

    Pic 1
    > showing two words were converted into code

Single line with two words without dot at the end
that intended to be single header
are automatically converted into a “code” block

    Pic 2
    > even clicking on the transform paragraph menu
    does not change the situation:
there is no option to change it into a header
    or even into paragraph.
    stucked.

  • Okay so, from what I can see, when you paste a text to a header, it automatically changes into code. Is that correct?
Does this happen with any text you paste directly to the editor? In which program are you writing the original title?
What happens when you choose the Header Block before pasting the text?

Thank you fresatomica for your concern.

I paste the whole text with multiple intended headers
as two- three words’ lines (paragraphs) without dots,
placed between normal text with interlines.

It happens with anything I write and paste as a whole block.
Many repetitions of this fault with many blog entries.

I do not paste into Header Block, because I paste the whole article.

The block editor for me is uncomfortable and incomprehensible,
too much mouse operations, I feel frustrated.

so I write in gedit Linux Mint, marking all text, copy and paste into WP.

  • Hi there,

so I write in gedit Linux Mint, marking all text, copy and paste into WP.

Are you able to save a copy of the document you are creating on your computer (as a .txt or other document format) and upload to your site so we can take a closer look at that file directly?

We can take a look at your document if you upload it here:
    https://wordpress.com/media/swiatducha.wordpress.com/

    Thanks!

Today I tried to paste the same text,
and this error was not occurring.

    You maybe improve the code?

Trying to upload a .txt file from gedit into “Media” directory you mentioned,
    made a note:

“2 files could not be uploaded because their file types are unsupported.”

    Still uneasy with block editor.
Has it some shortcuts for not touching mouse while writing?

  • Ah, sorry. If you want to upload elsewhere and send a link to that, we can take a look, though I’m glad to hear the error stopped.

The Block Editor does indeed have keyboard shortcuts. These may help:

    Thank you for the link.

The simple test text was uploaded to the:

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tNEi78JCD3ksf8hQPxI3onIIIVMX6cxv/view?usp=sharing

    made in gedit Linux Mint

Today there was no trouble in pasting again, checked.

    I have a question:
Can a paragraph be formatted as adjusted to both left and right sides?

one of two earlier editors allowed that, and I used it extensively.

Now there is no option in block editor.

  • I’m glad there was no trouble in pasting! I have to wonder if there was a snippet of code somewhere, hidden, that had the editor thinking it was code. Pasting as plain text (many browsers have this option) may help if you run into this again.

Are you trying to justify your text? We don’t have a keyboard shortcut for that at this time, but here’s how it can be done:

    Thank you.

    > if there was a snippet of code
maybe linux codes of text made it with no dot.

    Justify works, that’s nice.

The placement of justify icon is in the wrong menu, making the editor less coherent and less intuitive.

Let look into any book – it is justified, it is most common option.

and here it is in “additional”.

Was is intended, any ideas behind this nuisance?

  • The Justify option is available but discouraged because of uneven implementation in browsers, and because of readability issues, especially on smaller screens.

You can read more about the Justify controversy in the WordPress community here:
    https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/27159

There was some back and forth since then, and ultimately Justify was put back, but it’s not front-and-center in the block editor.

If you like the look of justified text and have the option to add CSS, you can add a snippet that will justify all text on your site. You can also make it un-justify on small screens. That way you’ve got readability, justified text, and you can just type in the editor. If you decide to upgrade a site to Premium to support CSS (it comes with other features, too) let us know and we can send a snippet.
