Pay Pal button for donations
-
How do I put a Pay Pal button on my WordPress.com blog? I’ve looked through the widgets and can’t find one there. Thanks.
JaneThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You need the instructions in the Support doc http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/ be aware that they are fiddly, but just take it step by step. And you can’t use the encrypted version or a drop-down menu either, just the plain button.
-
I tried to put it in a text widget, since I want it in the side bar, but it doesn’t work, and the instructions you directed me to seemed to be only for putting a pay pal button into a post. Now I’m really frustrated!
I didn’t understand the second paragraph in the support doc about copy pasting it from in a post?? Help please… Thanks. -
I noticed you still needed an answer.
Basically you will need to grab one of the images for a paypal button which you can find on that support document.
Go to Paypal and make your button, when grabbing the code do not grab the code for WEB, grab the code for EMAIL.
In a text widget you will place the code like this
<THE BUTTON CODE YOU CHOSE>That should do it :-)

Thanks Christina for this helpful info. This helped me as well. However, when I click on the donation button nothing happens. Do I need to insert anything in an actual blog? Or, do I still need to insert a shortcode into a post?
The blog that I need help with is annalisefonza.wordpress.com -
I see it showing
<img src="https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/btn_donateCC_LG.gif" alt="Donate Button with Credit Cards">Which means the URL email code is not there. If you want to provide that link from paypal I’ll reply with the exact code for you :-)

Are you saying that I copy paste twice? Once from the pay pal site and once from the Word Press support doc (the image for the pay pal button)? Why can’t the directions be easier to understand? Thanks.
-
Could you look at my blog again? I copy pasted twice, as I said above. But the button doesn’t work and the code is left on my blog. Help! I did use the email code on Pay Pal. I’m thinking that the text widgit doesn’t accept HTML code or something happened in the copy paste process. I need help with this! Thanks.
The Facebook widget is not on here right either. -
I figured out that I don’t have a Facebook page so I can’t use the Facebook widget. So how do I link my blog to my Facebook account? Do I do that from Facebook? Thanks.
-
FB widget only works with FB Pages. Go to http://en.support.wordpress.com/facebook-integration/ and scroll down to the section “Facebook Badges” and click on the link for “Facebook profile badge” (you should be signed in to your FB account) and follow the directions there. It’s not a “like” box but it will show some info & link to your FB profile.
Paypal button- replace the EMAIL URL FROM PAYPAL with the one provided by paypal (put it between the “)and then copy everything from
<img src="https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/btn_donateCC_LG.gif" alt="Donate Button with Credit Cards">It appears you did not remove the original code from the widget. Just remove that text widget and start with a fresh one.

I don’t understand what you are saying? What do I do with the grey box? Copy and paste it in the text widget and do what else??
-
I removed the original code from the text widget and copy pasted what you put in the grey box onto my blog. There is a button on my website now but it doesn’t go to pay pal. Thanks.
-
Where it says EMAIL URL FROM PAYPAL you need to replace that with the email url paypal provided when you made your button.
For example:
Paypal email URL provided- https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=XRGIHDRKGJYSo the code would be:
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=XRGIHDRKGJY"><img src="https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/btn_donateCC_LG.gif" alt="Donate Button with Credit Cards">Change the BOLD url above to your own button url.

ok it didn’t bold in the code box but do you see the paypal button url I added in place of EMAIL URL FROM PAYPAL?
That’s all you need to change on the code you have on your site right now.~C

About ready to give up. Can’t you just give me the code? I don’t know how to change a code!

My friend helped me so now the pay pal button finally works!! Haven’t figured out the Facebook link yet. I am wondering about my decision to get a WordPress blog, just seems very technical. And since I have a free blog, there isn’t any support people except through this forum. Is that true? Are the tutorials helpful? Thanks.
-
A WordPress.com blog is significantly LESS technical than most other kinds.
