Pay Pal “Buy Now” button
-
Howdy!
I’m wanting to put a Pay Pal button on my site. It provides me with an encrypted HTML code and gives these instructions…Paste the HTML code onto your website
Use an HTML editor to open up the webpage where you’d like the payment button to appear. Paste the button code you just copied into the appropriate line. Now preview your webpage; you should see the payment button next to the item you want to sell.
CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHY I AM NOT GETTING THE BUTTON?
Thanks!

Probably because it has javascript in it. Plus, you better check with support before you put something like that on your blog. Commercial blogs are not allowed here and that may violate TOS and get your blog suspended.
-
vivian, are you sure? I’m aware only of following restrictions:
http://wordpress.com/tos/
http://wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/
http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/12/08/adsense/Maybe these threads will help?

I was under the impression that a Paypal donation button was allowed but not a “Buy It Now” button.
-
Yeah, I was under the impression that you cannot sell things on blogs here at .com. I’m sure I remember people being suspended for it.

Vivian, sacredpath, thanks for your answers. I’d really like a clear statement from staff about it.
-
I have talked with staff about it and they’re much more accepting of business being done over blogs than they used to be. But it’s on a case by case basis. They’d rather see a business blog like Guy Kawasaki’s than a straight up catalogue blog, which would probably get suspended.
But the problem here is the encryption. You cannot use the encrypted versions of Paypal buttons here at WordPress.com. I have tested that.

No, the blog is still hosted at wordpress.com and still under the TOS and restrictions just as before.
-
The only upgrade that allows you to place ads on your blog is the VIP upgrade, which costs several hundred dollars per month.
-
Donate buttons are okay.
Anything else, contact Support with lots of detail.
Unless we know everything we cannot give a good answer. There is more leeway about what can / cannot be done, but it is discussed only after all the details are known.Blogs that just want lots of ‘Buy it now’ will not be permitted to have them. This is not ebay :)
