pay per view
-
Thanks torres 126, I will check the links you provided, my plan is to post a chapter per week over the course of a year.
My biggest concern is with the pictures I have incorporated within the text, as I believe most viewers will be using cell phones, possibly I should just group each chapter’s pics into an album with a link to it?
I also want a format that I can download and print off myself and others may wish to do the same.

Hi again,
@torres126 of course I don’t mind you adding to this thread! All is good. :)
@Dave still thinking about what might be the best way to go about this. Beyond posting a teaser blog post on your Publicly visible site (for both prospective subscribers and search engines), and a full chapter on your Private, pay-to-read site, I think you’ll need to use an outside utility to print your chapters to PDF. WordPress.com does have a Print sharing button that you can add to the end of each blog post, but from my past experience, the formatting may not be to your liking. Also, do you *want* to allow people to print your chapters? That sort of bypasses the whole idea of pay-to-read since such files can be shared by email.
Regarding images, as @torres126 mentioned, you’ll want to resize and optimize them before uploading them to your Private or Public site.

@torries126 thanks for the resizing link I shall make use of that
@justjennifer thanks for pointing out the fallacy of allowing viewers to print chapters, I hadn’t thought that one through. I write my posts on windows live writer, as I can use that offline, then copy-n-paste to WordPress, I can print for my own use straight off windows live, problem solved. Here’s my plan: write on windows, copy-n-paste to WordPress, insert a resized photo every thousand or so words. The rest of the photos relevant to that chapter I will put in an album on my Google photo site with a link posted at the end of the chapter.
I plan to post a chapter per week with a teaser post on my public blog a day or two prior with a link to the pay site plus my PayPal account. I tried adding these links in the menu section but it’s not cooperating and I am unable to post them in a footer as it just takes me to the widget section.
I think adding a link to sign up a WordPress account would also be helpful, what link should I post?
Are there any problems with my proposed plan that anyone can see?

Sounds good.
You might want to consider adding a photo every 450-500 words or so, as various resources suggest this helps keep readers engaged. (And on your public site, you might want to keep that first 500 words plus small image as your “teaser.”)
As far as adding a link to sign up to WordPress.com, the software automatically adds that link to the email invite when you send out an invite to a new Viewer of your Private site, as well as displaying it on the Private site gateway page. The email invite does let you add customized text as well, so adding a link to sign up for WordPress.com on your Public site might confuse your site visitors. There you want to direct them to your Subscription page and PayPal links. :)
If you are having trouble adding Custom Links to your Public site’s navigation menu, I’d suggest opening a separate forum thread and walk us through the steps you’ve taken. Getting a Subscription page up there is pretty important for your efforts.

@justjennifer you sure are a source of invaluable info 450-500 words per photo it shall be.
When a blog reader clicks on my private site WordPress sends me an invitation email, however, if I want to make others ie Facebook users aware of my site, do, I just request they send me an email which I reply to with a link to my public WordPress blog?
I shall open another thread about my issues adding links.
Thanks

You’ll probably want to set up a Facebook Page for your Public site where you can Publicize your weekly blog posts. That will automatically create the link back to your Public site.
While we can’t help with the FB Page setup (you can find info on FB), I can point you to our Publicize support guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/
