Paying for backups
-
Hallo folkes,
I’m considering the option of creating a new blog on WordPress.com and I saw that Automatic are charging extra fee for backups.
My premise says that it’s the best to host a WordPress blog with the company who develop WordPress.
and I can’t really understand why should I pay extra for backups when in every modern hosting service it’s completely free? what’s the cons of it?I also wanted to ask you for the variety of Right-To-Left themes. Couple of years ago I also tried this service but unfortunately I wasn’t satisfied from the poor variety for the RTL themes….
thank you

Hi @dolev,
Allow me to provide some clarification —
Live backups are available at no additional cost on the Business plan and higher. You can review plan features and pricing here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
However, if you have a self-hosted WordPress.org site, Jetpack Backup is available as an upgrade to the free Jetpack plugin.
WordPress.com supports various languages, including those which are RTL. With a Business or eCommerce plan, you can also use third-party themes and plugins.
If you’re looking to create a multilingual site, you have a few options:

I’d like to purchase the personal plan.
and again I want to understand why should I supposed to pay for backups? don’t you take the responsibility for the client data?
I’m a little bit confused…. -
Hi there,
We maintain regular backups of all sites on WordPress.com, regardless of plan, so even for free sites. But those backups are for when a technical issue on our end causes data loss. Those backups cannot be restored on-demand, for example, to reverse changes you made on your site that you aren’t happy with.
The backup feature included in our Business Plan is for real-time backups like that, where every time you make a change on your site, we take a snapshot, and you can restore your site to a previous snapshot whenever you want. Providing a service like that represents significant costs to us from a technical, resource use, and support perspective, which is why it’s only available on our higher-tier plans.
Keep in mind that on your self-hosted WordPress site, this is also something you’d pay for – while some hosting providers do offer this feature, the cost for that is included in the overall cost for your hosting plan, so it’s not free there either. And true real-time backups tend to only be included in more expensive hosting plans at most of the big hosting providers.
I hope this clarifies it for you, but please let me know if you have any more questions about this :)

Hi @kokkieh,
that’s what I’d like to hear- that you are making backups to prevent data-loss in case of technical issue.
I’m about to open a tiny blog so I don’t really need real-time backing up.
but I’d like to know that you are taking the responsibility for my content if some technical issue occurs and that’s enough for me.thanks for the clarification.

We definitely do that, yes :)
Good luck with the new site, and should you need any help getting started, you know where to find us!
