Paying For Domain + Plan
-
Hello WordPress Support Team,
I’m in the process of making a website with your platform. I want to subscribe to the ‘Personal Plan’ for my website. The selection page said it’s a $4 monthly fee for this plan. However, it also says that I have a ‘free domain for 1 (one) year.’
So my questions are:
1. What does ‘free domain for 1 year’ mean exactly?2. If I get to use my WP domain for free for a year (for example, November 18, 2020, to November 17, 2021), why am I getting charged now?
3. My receipt says that I owe $51.36 ($48 subtotal + $3.36 tax). Why am I getting charged for a whole year upfront instead of by the month? Also, where is the tax coming from? I live in a state where there is a 6% tax. If I understand, my tax should be $2.88. I understand that this is a kind of purchase so at least the first time, there will be a tax fee but I’m just a bit confused.
4. Will I have to pay the tax every month?
I appreciate your time and patience. I understand this is a lot. Thank you for your support too.

Hi there,
From what I can see you have cancelled the WordPress.com Personal Plan which has issued a partial refund as you can see here: https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/billing/
Is it your intent to cancel and refund the domain as well? it cannot be used as your site address without the “domain mapping” that is included in the plan you cancelled.

The standard cost of the WordPress.com Personal Plan is $48/yr (US) plus tax. However, the domain (normally an additional $18/yr (US) is not charged until the following year.
i.e. for this year you would be paying for only the plan ($48) and the domain is included for free, but next year you would need to pay to renew the plan as well as the domain ($48 + $18)

We do not have monthly billing as an option at this time, so the full year is paid in advance. However it seems that the total tax rate for you is 7% according to what I see here since your city adds a 1% tax on top of the base state tax rate of 6%
4. Will I have to pay the tax every month?
No, the tax is collected on the yearly amount, so there are no further charges until next year.
Hope this helps
