  why do I have to pay for the site before I publish it?

  Hi there,

  You don’t need to pay to have a site on WordPress.com. Hosting here is completely free, and you already have a free site at https://everydaypurchasesblog.wordpress.com/

  All upgrades here are optional, and only add extra features to your free site. But you can have a successful site without ever owning an upgrade.

  I just wanted to be able to check out what the paid site had to offer and see if I needed to go that way without having to pay for it right away. I just wanted to build something without publishing it.

  All the Premium Plan ads to a free site are some extra features. With Premium you have the ability to upload audio and video files to your site, you have some more options to change the colours and fonts of your theme, and you can make changes to your theme using CSS. And your site won’t show any ads if you have Premium.

  Aside from that a free site and a Premium site work exactly the same.
