Paying for WordPress subscription with Paypal

Hello, I just signed up for WordPress and I am trying to upgrade to a paid subscription. When I fill in the form and select Paypal, I enter my country (US) and zip code and it says something like ‘Sending information to PayPal’ on an in-page alert message but nothing happens for more than a minute. I have tried a few times, logged out and back in to WordPress and also tried a different browser. Any ideas?

The only accepted means of payment are in this support doc.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/payment/WordPress.com uses PayPal as the payment processor, and as such, can only accept payment from countries they support: https://www.paypal.com/worldwide/
If for whatever reason, they have chosen to block payment from your country, you will not be able to purchase an upgrade here unless you have a source of payment outside of your country. Note: You can buy a prepaid credit card from an approved country.
In addition to major credit cards Mastercard, VISA, American Express, Discover, and PayPal https://www.paypal.com/worldwide/ WordPress.com can accept echecks and some debit cards.
The debit card must have a VISA or Mastercard symbol on it, and should work just like a credit card when selecting the VISA or Mastercard option on the payment form, even though it’s a debit card.

What does the alert message you refer to say?
I don’t see any failed payments in our system, so this is most likely failing on PayPal’s end. Based on your description it sounds like your browser is not connecting to their servers properly.
Please make sure you have third party cookies enabled in your browser, and also disable any browser extensions that might be blocking them, like tracking protection and ad blocker extensions. Then clear your browser cache and cookies, log into WordPress.com and PayPal, and try again.
If it still fails, please contact PayPal support so they can also look into this from their end.
