    When I looked for a domain it stated it would be free for the first year, then £21 but when I started to go forward it shows I have to pay the £21 – no free statement. Can anyone help please? Many thanks.

    It is a website not a blog and is for joulepowers.me not the blog or the domain noted. Am I doing this all wrong?

    No but you may be reading support documents incorrectly.
    https://joulepowers.wordpress.com/ is listed because that is the site associated with the account you are posting from. Custom domains aren’t really free but included for free for the first year when you purchase a Pro plan. You can purchase a domain here but it isn’t a great idea unless you are going to connect that domain to a site at some other company. Without a Pro plan your £21 domain would default to the site address ending in .wordpress.com.
