  do i get any commission when wordpress.com put ads on my small blog?

  You do not receive a commission from these ads; these are used to help WordPress.com provide free services. You can remove these ads by upgrading to a WordPress.com Premium or Business plan.

  VIP and WordAds users/blogs are able to run their own ads, but standard accounts are not.

  The $18/year plan was for domain mapping only. Things recently changed and that is no longer an option; you will need a Premium or Business plan in order to get your own domain name.

  If you are looking for the more “traditional” form of advertising/monetization for your blog, you may want to consider a self-hosted WordPress.org site.
  https://wordpress.org/

  That would allow you to use any kind of advertising you choose.
