Payment

  • Unknown's avatar

I need help with making the payment to set up a website.

    My options are –

    1.Credit Card, which I don’t have and don’t want
    2. Paypal, which with wordpress is demanding a credit card to complete the purchase, despite being authenticated by my bank account and having more than enough money in the paypal account itself.
    3. Bancontact – When I scan the QR code with the payconiq app, it tells me this is not a valid QR code.

Can you please contact me to help me out with this so I can get started?

    With thanks,

    Evelyn

Super, I look forward to it, thanks.

  • Hi Evelyn,

    1.Credit Card, which I don’t have and don’t want

We also accept all major debit cards, using the same form as for credit card payments.

    2. Paypal, which with wordpress is demanding a credit card to complete the purchase, despite being authenticated by my bank account and having more than enough money in the paypal account itself.

That is a requirement on PayPal’s end, not ours. For recurring subscriptions PayPal requires that a valid credit card be connected to the PayPal account, even if you have sufficient funds in your account. We do not have any control over this policy of PayPal’s.

    3. Bancontact – When I scan the QR code with the payconiq app, it tells me this is not a valid QR code.

We haven’t seen any other reports of this happening. Can you please check if it works if you try to use a different browser to make the purchase?

Also please contact support at Payconiq/Bancontact to make sure this isn’t a problem with the app itself – if you take a screen shot of the QR code you see on our end and send it to them, they should be able to confirm whether or not it’s valid.

    Thankyou for your response :)

For the debit card, you ask for the 3 digits (CVV) on the back of my card, which is not a feature on my card. Mine is a Maestro card from ING if that helps at all. It’s called a betaalpas, on the back it has my signature and a bunch of bla about ING.

For paypal, paypal denies this, saying it is a policy of companies to have a credit card with address for recurring payments… though, given their general behaviour of late I’m inclined to believe companies such as yourselves. As for their support, over the last year they seemed to have removed the very idea of support from their company. Getting an answer for anything is impossible without googling to get the closest answer to your problem. Either way, it makes paypal unusable for people without a credit card which is pretty annoying.

On Bancontact, I tried this first with the Payconiq app linked to my bank account, first google chrome, then again with internet explorer, but no dice – not a valid qr code. Their support has bounced me back to your support.

I then tried with the payconiq app by bancontact which is apparently an entirely different app. This does not support ING in the Netherlands, only the Belgian ING, and so, unusable.

Can I perhaps suggest that you can provide me, via email, the details of the paying account, so I can pay via manual transfer? Unless you can think of another way around these methods. Sorry to be such a pain!

ETA: Via Debit card asks for my card number, which has letters in it, which is also not accepted by your site.

In that case you won’t be able to use the debit card, no. Only debit cards with a CVV code can be used for online purchases for security reasons.

So you are located in the Netherlands? We currently only support Bancontact for Belgium, as indicated here:

    Payment Methods on WordPress.com

In the Netherlands we do support iDEAL. Is that perhaps an option for you?

Can I perhaps suggest that you can provide me, via email, the details of the paying account, so I can pay via manual transfer?

I’m afraid we’re not able to accept payment via direct bank transfer at this time.

The only other alternative I can suggest is to purchase a pre-paid credit card – both Mastercard and Visa offer those, and you can purchase those directly from some banks. Then you should be able to use that to pay.

iDeal is perfect, but it’s not shown on your site, can you help me set that up?

  • Unknown's avatar

Looking at the support link, it only seems to be given as an option when renewing a purchase already in action. For new purchases, only credit card, paypal and bancontact are shown.

  • Hi there,

iDeal is perfect, but it’s not shown on your site, can you help me set that up?

You have to be located in the Netherlands for that payment method to appear in your checkout page.

My location is set to the Netherlands, it isn’t there – See here

  • I can see that the WordPress.com account timezone is set to Amsterdam. The language on the account is in English (but I don’t think that would be a factor here).

Could you double check that your browser settings also indicate your correct geographical location? Then, sign out of WordPress.com and clear the cache. Sign back in to see if the payment options have updated.

It shouldn’t be, no. I tried wiping the cache, and even completely blocking location, restarted everything, same issue.

Issue workaround – I used my phone instead of my pc and voila, we have an ideal payment possible :D

  • Fantastic. Are you using a VPN on the computer by any chance? I’m just trying to figure out why that option isn’t showing for you on the desktop….

-Can you tell me what operating system and version number you’re using?
-Which browser types and versions did you try?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, got there in the end xD

    No, no vpn.
Windows 10 Pro 64 bit version 1803 (I think, based on the update history log). Browsers I tried were my default browser Google Chrome Version 74.0.3729.131 (Official Build) (64-bit) and internet explorer 11.706.17134.0

  • @evelynengtut can you go to https://www.whatismyip.com/ and confirm what location is listed there?

If the location there is wrong, could you test with a different connection?
