payment for new domain

  • Unknown's avatar

    Dear support team,

I would like to register a domain so that my blog http://www.nihilsentimentalgia09.wordpress.com would become http://www.nihilsentimentalgia.com. I’m having a problem with payment.
The question is: I have money in my paypal account (i make bank transfers in order to have money available there) but it seems like in this case I can only pay with paypal if I have a credit or debit card, which I don’t. Isn’t there a way to work around this, for instances giving me the code to pay or something else.
    Thank you.
    Best regards,
    Sofia

    Hi Sofia,

You should be given the option to use instant bank transfer as an option. When you go to checkout and select “PayPal” as your payment option, you should be redirected to PayPal to finish the transaction where you can select automatic bank transfer. Are you not seeing this option?

    Cheers,

    Jeremey

    Dear Jeremy,

When I checkout with Paypal and am redirected and login, there is no other option besides a warning: “To complete the payment with WordPress.com, please add a new credit card.” followed by the details of the order made and a window to add the credit or debit card.

Any suggestion? I’d really like to have this issue solved in order to upgrade to the new domain.

    Thank you for your reply,
    Sofia

    Hi Sofia,

Just to confirm, you are trying to use PayPal credits (or money that you’ve already transferred to PayPal) to make this payment correct? Is the credit amount enough to cover the full cost of the upgrade? If not, do you have a back-up method available for PayPal as described here?

Yes, I’m trying to use money already transferred to PayPal and the credits are enough to cover the cost of the upgrade.
    Thank you.

    Hi Sofia,

Do you also have a back-up method for payment set-up through PayPal? You may need to set-up a back-up method in order to make this option available.

I now can checkout with the paypal option of paying with my funding but no quantity appears in front of the “PayPal balance” and when I click continue it says error. When in my papypal account I do have credits, although that balance appears in Euros and in U.S.dollars the amount is zero. Might that be the issue?

    Thank you once again,
    Sofia

    Hi Sofia,

I believe the currency discrepancy is causing the issue. Can you add the domain to your cart following steps 1-3 here:

    Register a New Domain

After it is in your shopping cart, I can change the currency on the transaction. Then, you should be good to go.

    Best,

    Jeremey

I’ve followed those steps (again) and stopped in step 3, before proceeding with payment through Paypal.
I’ll wait for further guidance to know when I can complete this.
    Thanks.

    Hi,

I apologize for the mistake. This would have worked for anything other than a domain. However, you should be able to manually change the currency by registering the domain through this link:

    Premium Upgrades [Redirects to Plans]

This should change all currencies to euros. Can you let me know if this works on your end?

    Best,

    Jeremey

Nope, I already had the currency in euros in wordpress and this doesn’t change the facts stated in the previous messages. Should I just give up?

    Hi,

I’m sorry you’re still having trouble. Occasionally, this can happen with purchases that require a yearly renewal. Sometimes PayPal will not let the transaction process using PayPal credits. I’m afraid there isn’t much I can do on our end. Would you mind sending a brief note to PayPal asking what might not be working on their side and how to get this resolved? This should do the trick:

    “Hi,

I’m trying to pay for a new Domain Upgrade through WordPress.com with my PayPal balance. The cost of the upgrade is $xxx, and I have $xxx in my account. The currencies match for the WordPress upgrade and my PayPal balance. However, I’m still getting an error when I try to pay. This is a product that is renewed every year. Might that be causing an issue?”

PayPal can be contacted from this site:

    https://www.paypal.com/webapps/helpcenter/helphub/home/

Please let me know what you find out!

    Best,

    Jeremey

    Dear Jeremy,

Just to let you know how the process came to a conclusion:
the problem was with Paypal. I spent two weeks emailing with their support team. They were terrible at it. It ended up with me closing my account with paypal and a friend helped me pay for the upgrade.
    The issue is now resolved.
    Thanks for trying to help,
    Sofia

    Hi Sofia,

I’m sorry you had such a long ordeal trying to get this taken care of! However, I’m glad you were able to renew the upgrade. Please let me know if there’s anything I can do on my end going forward.

    Best,

    Jeremey
