payment options for customers

Hi :) I am starting up my e commerce website and rather novice. but being a smaller start up obviously very budget conscious.
My product range is extensive – around 600 at the moment and looking to expand.
My question is – for customers I noticed you have pay pal options for them. Is there a facility to add VISA, Mastercard, Apple Pay, and also things like zip and after pay?
Obviously I want to make it as easy for my potential customers to pay as possible and options like zip/afterpay also allow for another market of those who wish to purchase
    Kind Regards MIa

  • Hi there,

For our free sites, the only option to accept payment is to use simple PayPal “buy now” buttons, as described here: https://wordpress.com/support/paypal/

To clarify, with that button you can pay with any major credit card that PayPal themselves support. I see a lot of info on this when I search Google but you will want to contact PayPal directly to see what cards they can accept to be sure.

You also have the option to upgrade to gain access to the following payments blocks:
    https://wordpress.com/support/pay-with-paypal/
    https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/payments/ (Stripe)

Finally, you can upgrade to our Business and eCommerce plans to build a full-featured ecommerce site with WooCommerce and the ability to upload any plugin or theme “designed for WordPress”

that’s great, Yes it is the ecommerce plan that I want. when I was reading through features I couldn’t see these as an option for payment. But if they are i am happy to pay the extra. I just don’t want to commit to building a site and pay for a platform that hasn’t the features i need. So to clarify, if I pay for the ecommerce these are available?
    Thank you :)

  • On the Business or eCommerce plan, you’ll be able to install any payment gateway plugin made for WordPress, yes.

You’ll also need an ecommerce plugin – we recommend WooCommerce, as it’s made by the same company as WordPress.com, which means not only can we guarantee it works here, our plans also include full support for that plugin should you need help. There are various payment gateway plugins for WooCommerce, integrating with various payment processors, that support all the payment methods you mentioned above and then some.

The eCommerce plan comes with WooCommerce pre-installed, but if you’re on a budget you can also just go for Business and install it yourself. Both plans come with live chat support where my colleagues can walk you through the steps if needed.
