Payment page postcode requirement

I am losing custom because customers are unable to process a payment without entering a postcode. They receive message that postcode is not valid, not matter what postcode they use. I, on the other hand, testing this issue used several different postcodes – including 0000 – and the payment was processed. What the hell is going on here? We do not need to use postcodes for credit card payments in Australia, how can I remove this requirement?
