Payment Process Stuck at step 2

  I am trying to upgrade my wordpress site and use a domain I already own. I have done everything including editing the order to delete the free domain offer. When I submit the order it goes to paypal where I made payment but each time returns to the same wordpress checkout screen after deducting $1 from my account. It has done this three times now. How is this meant to work

  I am seeing a few unsuccessful purchases. But I also see a successful purchase of a WordPress.com Personal plan today. Were you able to sort this all out?
