  Is it possible to have a paypal donation button on a free wordpress plan?

  There are two steps. First you establish the amount the button represents and get a custom link for it here:
  https://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/get-paypal-button-code/

  And then to add that button to your site, go here (which references the link above, as well)
  https://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/view-all/

  And I had to download a paypal button and link that pic to my paypal. :)
