PayPal ‘Buy Now’ button?
-
I can easily install a donate button from paypal, using the directions and code at wordpress help, but I want a ‘Buy Now’ button, is there code for the ‘buy now’ buttons anywhere?
-
The buy now button requires javascript and javascript is not allowed here due to security concerns.
-
You might also want to take a look at these FAQ’s as what is allowed here is quite limited when it comes to business blogs:

I didn’t see anywhere in wordpress that says you can’t sell things from your business, in fact it looks like they encourage you to use word press for business.
-
Not exactly. Read those two links that TSP gave you. They encourage business blogging; they do not encourage straight catalog blogs.

Hello
This reply seems to conflict with the followinghttps://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=32270&replies=2
which suggest ‘small businesss’ transactions are acceptable.
Is the ‘buy now’ button totally out of the question, or can it be configured like the ‘donate’ button?
I understand WordPress.com is not appropriate to big business, but even ‘donate’ involves money changing hands!
Thanks for clarification.

I use the Donate button to process registrations for my courses. Just upload your own image instead of one that says DONATE and you can use it just the same, only the person will have to fill in the amount.
I don’t know of anyone who’s successfully used the Buy It Now button on WP.com. If two versions are available, one of them encrypted, do NOT use the encrypted one; that will never work here. If you try the non-encrypted version and get it to work, I’m sure people would appreciate your posting that info back in this thread.

You can get around problems that the WordPress restriction on using javascript causes.
Just add a widget or a hyperlink that directs readers to an intermediate page hosted elsewhere, where javascript can be used.
I do this so that I can have a widget on my WordPress blog that lets Skype users call me. Since the Skype button requires javascript, I placed it on a page I set up at freewebs.com, and I use straight html in a WordPress text widget to send people to my “Skype me” page at freewebs. You can check it out at http://routingbyrumor.wordpress.com
Takes one extra “hop” so to speak, but it works great.

Hi
After some experimenting I have discovered you can, technically, use a Buy Now button, by adapting the instructions for Donate on the WordPress FAQ. (Follow Paypal instructions for adding ‘buy now’ using the advice given in WordPress, i.e. non-encrypted version and code ‘for emails’).
The only problem is that the ‘for email’ code does not contain the Buy Now button image and WordPresss doesn’t offer the image source code. You can actually unearth it from the paypal ‘for websites’ code if you know just a smidgin of html. You could also create your own image (though this might annoy paypal).
I don’t plan to implement this feature unless I can get some confirmation that WordPress will allow ‘Buy now’ in some (ie small business or hobbyist) blogs.
Hope this helps. -
Here’s how I got buy now into my WordPress.com blog.
- Got to paypal, under merchant services create a buy now button. (Be sure the Button Encryption is turned off)
- Copy the link for emails
- In the WordPress backend, type Buy Now, highlight it, click the link button, and paste in the email URL.
You could also create a graphic (or steal Paypal’s) and link it.
-
To get the “Buy Now” button image you could borrow the gif from Paypal’s create button screen. Upload it as an image.. Link that image to the Email link code that Paypal generated. And make sure the encryption is off. It looks like a buy now but and takes you to the same place.

Well I successfully added a donate button, when I test it, Paypal tells me it will not process the transaction as I am using a non-encrypted button!
I used the standard donate button and emailcode just as WP says you should, but PayPal blocks it.
-
Contact Paypal directly. If they’re going to do that, it’ll block ALL the Paypal buttons on ALL WordPress.com blogs, and that would be a BIG FUCKING DEAL.
