PDF files not loading in IE7 from links outside WP pages

    1. When you click on a link inside my WP blogs to a PDF stored on WP it will load OK.
    2. When you click on a link in a separate PDF to a PDF stored on WP it will NOT load.
    3. When you paste the URL of a PDF stored on WP into IE7 it will NOT load.
    4. I checked with a friend who also uses IE7 and he has same problem.
    5. I added my WP site (http://voiceofcanada.wordpress.com) to ‘Trusted Sites but no change.
    6. I have the latest Adobe reader and Microsoft updates.
    7. IE7 WILL load PDFs that are NOT stored on WP just fine.
    8. Everything is fine with Firefox, therefore it has to be an IE7 problem interacting with WP when the links are outside the WP system or pasted directly into the browser.

BOTTOM LINE: When I create a PDF with links to my WP PDF files, none of them will load via the links in the PDF, nor can people manually paste in the URL to get to them. This is a huge problem for me since I have all kinds of PDFs on my site!

Does anybody know anything about this? Any suggestions other than telling people they can’t use IE7 to load my WP PDF files?

Here is a sample PDF file to test – try pasting into your IE7 browser or inserting it into a PDF:

    Thanks!

I would contact staff and let them know about this. I don’t have IE on this computer and so can’t test it, but they can.

It shows up fine in IE8 although typical for IE and the Adobe viewer plugin, it takes an eternity for it to show up. With Safari, it shows up in about 3 seconds.

    Uh, you click on it.

What I mean is how do add a link to my pdf file-I cannot find a way to add an attachment.

We always need a link to the blog, starting with http, before we can answer technical questions. We basically always have to look at it.

@erkya91, this support document explains how to upload documents such as PDF’s and put links to them in posts.

Actually you started a thread on this at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/add-an-attachment?replies=2 and you were asked for your blog URL there also.

Thanks for the suggestions. After posting it here, I decided to submit this to Support, but I haven’t heard back yet. They’re really great, so I’m guessing they’re still working on it.

Just to clarify, my problem is not uploading and posting a link to a PDF via WP. If you click on the PDF link I provided above, it loads just fine in IE7.

My problem is that if I click on a link to that same WP PDF file from inside a different PDF document (say an academic paper I’ve written) the PDF on the WP system won’t load using IE7.

Even if I copy the URL for the WP PDF file and paste it directly into IE7 it will not load.

This means that anyone who creates a PDF document linking to PDFs stored on the WP system will have a bunch of useless links in their document! This is a serious problem, especially since I use PDFs constantly.

    Thanks again, Mark.
