PDF in media library shuts down IE

HI. I’m reasonablt new here, but checked the pdf tags in the forum, but found no help there.

I have saved a .PDF in my media library, then hyperlinked to it in my WP blog.

Up until a few weeks ago, it worked fine and fast.

Now, when I click on the .PDF file, it shuts down and says ‘IE stopped working’ and the .PDF does not come up.

The .PDF file is 1413 KB (not large, I don’t think). My storage is good (I’ve only used 9 MB of the 3 GB available; 99.7% is still available). Nothing complicated in the pdf formation process.

[if you go to http://novelnovels.wordpress.com and click on “Example” then click on the example chapter, the novel chapter should come up as a pdf but does not; if it comes up for you or you get a more meaningful error message, please let me know]. The content of the pdf is the text of a novel chapter with some pictures attached. If you just hover over it, it will still show you page 1].

Any help for why this is shutting down, rather than displaying the .PDF would be appreciated, and thanks!

    Lewis

I would think it is a problem with IE on your machine or possibly a problem with the Adobe Reader plugin. I just looked at it in Safari and Firefox and it works just fine for me.

My guess is, you’re on one of the ISPs that recently decided media files on WP.com (including PDFs) were “pornography” and has blocked them. Contact your ISP to ensure that WordPress.com media files are allowed. LOTS of people are having that problem.

Thank so much for your advice.

I am using IE8. I’ll check these other sources.

I am new to WP and this is only the second time I’ve asked a question on here, and it’s been very helpful to know so many people are willing to send in possible solutions to something that has me in a jam.

    Thanks again!

After disabling all Ad-ons, and then adding them back one at at time, I figured out the problem in the Ad-ons is AVG software (a virus security program I have on my computer). When I disable this, it works; when I enable it it the pdf won’t come up.

Am I at risk for a virus if I leave it off?

    Any suggestions?
