PDF’s no longer upload
-
I’ve been adding pdf files to my pages for years. It all worked. On Monday I mistakenly tried to upload a 7Mb PDF. That didn’t display and ‘downloads’ as a blank. Now all subsequent PDFs don’t display and download as blank. How can I restore the functionality so new PDFs will work again?
In addition I see no images in the media library view, just grey squares. I’ve removed all recent bad uploads.
I’d be very grateful for any help here, I’ve been try for days to make this work !!

Hi there,
I see that the two most recent pdf downloads give me an error when I attempt to download, but all others I can download successfully.
I wonder if this is a browser-related issue. Have you tried logging in using a different browser to upload the pdfs or clearing your browser’s cache?
Try those two options and let me know if you have any success. Thanks!

I’ve tried 3 browsers and just tried clearing all the caches. No improvement. It uploaded a PDF of a text but not the PDFS of my music (yet these display fine elsewhere) Actually I can tell as soon as I upload that it is not working as the “show PDF inline embedded” shows a blank screen for music.
It must be an issue with the PDFS themselves but this makes little sense as I have been creating similar PDF’s for years and the same “faulty” PDFS upload onto an alternative weebly site I’m now creating as a “last resort” (Not a very good last resort as my printed business cards reference my wordpress site)
Incidentally I’m no where near out of website space (3% of 3Gb)

Have you tried re-uploading a PDF that you have already uploaded successfully?
With your permission, I can try uploading a sample pdf to your media library to see if I can view and download it successfully. This way, we can pinpoint the issue.
Let me know if that works.
There may be an issue that was recently reported by another user that may be related to what you are experiencing. If so, our developers are aware and will be working on a fix. But, let’s make sure that this isn’t something else.
Thanks!

thank you for help so far.
I can again upload pdf music files that I created earlier. There are two big differences between them. Later files may be at higher resolution (I can’t seem to check this easily) . Does PDF resolution matter- is it very critical? (Music at too low a resolution does not print well)
Both have same Pscript5.ddl version 5.2.2 but PDF producer changes
The earlier (working ) one is created by GPL Ghostscript 8.71
The later one (non working) is created by GPL Ghostscript 9.5.
Later files are Landscape A4 , earlier ones are Portrait A4Maybe then the issue is some property of the PDF’s my system now makes. I’m using CutePDF writer to invoke these programs.
You have my permission to upload and download samples to my media library. It would be great to have this fixed , many thanks

As described, that should be fine.
Can you upload one of the files with the problem elsewhere, like DropBox, Google Drive, so we can take a look at the specific file?

Hi there,
Thank you for providing those files. I was able to replicate it on a test site of mine.
Please use a different program to generate those PDFs and if possible a different interpreter (other than Ghostscript).
If this still doesn’t work, just let me know and I’ll help you further troubleshoot this.

thanks for the reply. I’ll try a different program later today.
Do you know what the exact technical issue is in the PDF’s . Don’t be afraid to send me very technical descriptions – in addition to writing music my ‘day job’ is writing very low level graphics routines!
many thanks

I can confirm that PDFS generated with the Microsoft PDF system upload correctly.
thank you for your invaluable help
