Penscratch2 Theme Adding Huge Spaces Above Videos and Pics

    It’s a clean theme but it constantly adds random and sometimes huge spaces under or over pictures and video. I can edit the content for no spaces and after updating there can be as many as 10 blank spaces randomly added under or over a picture or video. Incredibly frustrating.

    Should I switch to a different theme or is there something more global going on? I’m using Mozilla for the browser but can’t imagine that could be causing this.

    @leehamptoncross can you send a few links to affected posts? The ones I’m seeing look fine to me. A screenshot, uploaded to wordpress.com/media, may also be helpful. Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the links, that’s a great help. The additional spacing is being causing by   HTML tags — they are used for spacing and are typically added if you hit return after adding media or starting a new paragraph:

    One of these space tags is created each time you hit enter (even if that spacing isn’t reflected in the visual editor).

    If you switch to the HTML tab on the editor, you should be able to see and remove them from there.

    I’ve been able to insert images without the extra space on my test site, which suggests this behaviour is unlikely to be a theme bug. Could you try removing the   tags to see if that helps?

    Well now I know there’s something goofy because when I look at my post in HTML there are only huge spaces between paragraphs and the pictures or videos. Coding is showing for “bold” and other stuff but no HTML coding is showing at all in the blank spaces. One screenshot example of the HTML has been uploaded so you can see it.

    Something interesting. After going into the editor and looking at the HTML code then doing nothing more than switching back to Visual then updating the post, most of the spaces have dissapeared. Something is definitely interacting with the editor and update process on my machine. I might try a different browser when editing to see if that affects anything.

    Hi there,

    I tested your post on both the WordPress.com editor (the one you’re using) and the classic one (https://leehamptoncross.wordpress.com/wp-admin/) and I couldn’t reproduce it.

    Trying a different browser might be a good idea as you suggested. Please keep us updated!

    Haven’t tried a different browser yet but did delete all the spaces in the HTML view and updated directly from there. The spacing didn’t show up in the post afterward.

    Still not sure what’s going on but at least the post doesn’t look like my cat was walking on the keyboard anymore. :)
