penscratch2 theme featured image NOT set but image still appears twice in post

Hi, I have been using the penscratch2 theme without any problems for about a month and am very happy with it – I have added images to my post and they appear in the space I define as expected. However, recently I am experiencing an issue where the image I choose to add to my post is now appearing twice- once in the space I define and once at the top of the post (the top of post image is cropped smaller). I am not aware that I have changed any settings to cause this to happen and there is NOT a featured image set. I have searched extensively online for a solution to no avail – the nearest I could find was the ‘featured image’ issue causing images to appear twice, but again, I have not set a featured image. I am nearing a project deadline and could really use some help in solving this … its too late now to setup a new site and transfer everything over!

Hi,
Try this: At Customize > Content Options > Featured Images, uncheck the box labeled “Automatically use first image in post.” Then save the change by clicking the Publish button. This option may have been checked off by default.
