People cannot comment on my posts

    I made my first blog post yesterday and I cannot figure out how to allow comments on that page.

    In “post” page in my dashboard, I’m not given a box to check to allow comments. This option is on my pages but not my posts. For example, people can comment on my “Portfolio” and “Recommend” page because I have the comment box marked. The post page only gives me “show likes” and “show sharing buttons” to check.

    I went into the “settings” menu and verified I have “Allow people to post comments on new articles” checked in the “discussion” area. Still not able to comment on my post.

    To be clear by default comments are open on every page and every post on every WordPress.com blog. You have changed the settings and now must restore them to enable comments.

    This page > Settings > Discussion
    Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.

    We can also override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any individual post or page.

    Note: By default, new blogs on WordPress.com will have the Discussion hidden. You can reveal it by clicking on Screen Options http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ on the top right corner of your Admin page, and checking the box that says Discussion so the module is included. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules

    @timethief,

    The problem was the “discussion” box in the Screen Options was not checked. So thank you for that info.

    But…I’m still not getting the option to comment on the post page after I hit update.

    When I check the “discussion” box, I am given the option to show comments (“allow comments” and “allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page”). The box is already checked so I don’t have to do anything. Once I hit update, though, the “discussion” box becomes unchecked and I no longer given the option to show comments.

    Any idea how to keep the “discussion” box in the Screen Options clicked? I tried hitting the pull down to close it, as well as just hitting update after I check the box. Both methods are clearing the box.

    I did verify the “discussion” in the “settings” area is enabled.

    In preview mode, it shows the comment box, even after I hit update. When I go to my actual site, though, no comment box.
