Why can't people register to my blog?
-
Why is that people cannot register to my new blog? They keep getting “invalid user” and asks them if they forgot their password when they have never even registered yet? WordPress is not responding to my emails so I’m putting this out to the public forums in case anyone else can help. Upon typing in my wordpress url she got the ‘invalid user’ and was directed to a page to start her own blog ??? I would appreciate any help in this as my new blog is at a total standstill. Thank you.

Hi there,
I apologize for any delay in our response. When you say people can’t register to your blog, are you referring to the “log in” button available on your site’s front page?
Additionally, can you let me know what URL your friend used to access your site when she received the “Invalid User” error?

from what I understand they are just trying to open up my url – the one that’s listed above … one sent me the entire page of response:
Marianna, It looks like your blog thinks I’m already logged in and I have not logged in yet. I copied and pasted the whole page.I selected log in from the list on the right side. Also I wanted to tell you that I did pick rigister first, but that’s for starting your own blog site. Sorry, I haven’t got a clue……………Love, J

evarlese? are you working on this? did I provide enough information? When they hit the login button they get the error of “Invalid Username. Lost your password?” so it is assuming they have already ‘logged in’ but have never even been to the blog. Have you yourself tried this on my blog? Did you get the same error? Please check my blog http://mariannabasile.wordpress.com/ in order to troubleshoot it.
Please help. -
Users don’t need to “log in” to view your blog. They should simply be able to see your writing by visiting mariannabasile.wordpress.com.
Is there a reason your visitors are trying to “log in” to your blog? Are you looking to add users to contribute to your blog?

ok say they don’t have to log in to actually comment then? I will send out a notice that they ought to be able to view it, my posts and just comment on my posts then…. I will double check this with the people that said they had trouble.

evarlese; or anyone; I’m sitting for a friends cats and got on her computer. This is what I did exactly:
I typed in my url on a blank window .. my site came up – fine
I went to one of my posts – went to the bottom and just started typing a test post
as soon as I hit submit post – I was told I needed to login before I could post …
This is where everyone is getting stuck – they think they have to open an account with wordpress in order to post – they think they have to have a login id and a password to post – because that’s essentially what I got when I tried the test post this afternoon …
What are we doing wrong???? It shouldn’t be this difficult to simply post a comment.
They want to do more than just view my log – they want to post comments
Exactly how do they do that? Please give me more information … -

Marianna, When I went to your blog I could write a message and then I clicked on POST COMMENT. Then I got a message that I had to log in before I could comment.
The exact message is — Sorry, you must be logged in to post a comment.I think when you get it figured out you should put some extra instructions on the page. Hope this helps………..J

Mike had me check my Discussion Settings to see if the box was checked saying that people had to be logged in and registered. It was checked. He suggested that that could be the obstacle and to uncheck that box. I did so and am now awaiting 2 friends to make sure posting does not require them to log in or register.
Thank you so much for your concern and response Mike. You were a big help to me.- Marianna -
