People get a WordPress Sign-in menu when they try to get into the website

Suddenly, I noticed weird changes to the website: the main menu had double the items, pages were duplicated, and page dividers were no longer supported. Then I got calls that other people were not able to get into the website – a WordPress sign-in menu appears when people type in the web address, instead of getting them into the website. What happened? Did our subscription run out? How do we know if that happened? It seems like our yearly subscription ran out, but we did not get any reminders or anything, and I took over the maintenance from someone else who is no longer around. We have no way of knowing. How can we find out??? I don’t know the email associated with this account, and I wouldn’t have access to it. Can someone send me what to do to the parish email at (email visible only to moderators and staff).

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

I’ve gone ahead and added the modlook tag to your post for WordPress.com team members to come to your aid as soon as possible.

In the meantime, if I understand correctly you want to get access to the account associated with that website. Since you’re maintaining the site for someone, that person should have receipts from the previous billing cycles. You can use those receipts from WordPress.com to recover your account.

To do that, please refer to the link below:

I hope that helps your situation, please let me know so that I can further assist you where possible :)

  • Hi there,

This happened because the Business Plan on your site expired, yes. This caused the site to revert back to the free plan, and to be set back to an un-launched state.

You didn’t receive any notifications about this, because your account doesn’t own the upgrades on the site. The Business Plan, domain, and the site itself, belongs to another admin on the site, sj23pastor. Renewal reminders for the plan was sent to the person who owns that account.

To allow people to access the site again, go to My Site ->Settings ->General, and click the button there to launch the site. As an admin, you’ll also be able to add a new Business Plan to the site, which would allow you to add back all the plugins you were using, or to restore a site backup from before the plan expired. After you buy a new plan, you can contact live chat support at https://wordpress.com/help/contact to help you through that process.

If sj23pastor is no longer involved with the site, it would be best if they transferred ownership of the domain and site to you instead, so you’re able to manage everything going forward. Only someone logged into that account can make this ownership transfer – we cannot do it at your request.
