Performance concerns migrating wordpress.com site to DreamHost
-
I want to migrate my WordPress.com blog onto my DreamHost hosting. I understand how to export/import and switch my domain over, but I am worried about whether my hosting package will provide enough bandwidth/speed to keep my site performance.
I don’t want to find out it won’t perform after it’s too late!
My site eveningharold.com has had about a million page views in its first year, but traffic is spiky, the busiest day so far having about 80,000 page views.
From your experience, what should I be asking DreamHost for? Is a basic hosting package usually enough for a reasonably popular WordPress site?

Hi @rickwestwell,
Honestly, that might be a better question for the Dreamhost support staff. Their basic plan advertises unlimited bandwidth, which in theory, means it could support really high levels of traffic without a problem:

I would imagine you could start with that. If you notice any performance issues, you could always switch to their private server package:

I would just raise your concerns with them and talk about the opportunity to move back and forth between packages as your traffic rises!
If you have any questions about the actual move, please let us know.
