  I signed up for a blog . . . so. . . where’s my blog?
  On the features page it just tells me all about it but there is no place that I can see that actually lets me create a header, etc, etc
  Where do I go from here?

  Looks like you signed up just for the account, not the blog.
  I’ve made the blog for you though – head to http://wordpress.com and it should be linked under your name.

  And the link from options will be very useful :)
