Permalink dates changing for some reason

I have a problem with my permalinks not staying perma(nent).
That is, I have several posts, each of which I have linked to my blog home page. I noticed in IE that those links would not work later. After checking the urls, I saw that for some reason the dates in the permalinks are changing to the current date. I’m not even updating the posts, I’m just discovering that the links are no longer working, going to check anbd seeing that the link dates are for today now, which of course means they will not work.
Am I using the permalinks incorrectly? I have just been copying the whole thing form the post to be linked to, and applying each to the appropriate link text on my blog home page. This is driving me crazy after spending so much time getting this basic thing setup. It is supposed to be less care for me, but it bringing me close to blowing my top… whew. i feel better now.
One more twist, this problem appeared to not be happening when using Firefox. Advice anyone? Please?
