Permalink help!
-
I am trying to create a ‘resources’ page for my blog. I create the page, but it wants to call the permalink ‘resources-2′. When I try to edit the permalink, it simply changes back to resources-2’. I have deleted all previous pages and emptied my trash. There is no other page called ‘resources’ or using that permalink.
How can I get the premalink extension to just be ‘resources’ without the ‘-2’?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, but since this is mostly a peer-to-peer support forum, we forum volunteers generally tag threads for Staff if there is a problem we cannot resolve.
There may be a caching issue because of the previously named Page called “Resources”. Even though you have deleted your trash folder, it may take a bit longer, up to 3 days or so, before the page is entirely removed from the database.

Ok, that’s great, thanks. I didn’t realise it was peer-to-peer. I thought it was primarily a wordpress staffed forum. Good job!

You’re welcome.

It’s a sticky post at the top of the forums.

@stevencollier
These may help:
On the bottom of your Admin page you will find a link to the Learn WordPress.com blogging Tutorial prepared by Staff. http://learn.wordpress.com/The support documentation is all found at the Support link http://en.support.wordpress.com which is also on the bottom of your Admin page.

If you still can’t create a new Resources page in a day or so, please post back to this same thread and we’ll tag it for Staff.

I have just tried to create my resources page and it is still not letting me have /resources. It renames every time to /resources-2. Some help would be much appreciated.

The only thing I can think is that there is another Page on your site that you maybe changed the title but kept the slug as “resources”. It may be a draft or unpublished page.
Since your site is marked “Private” we cannot see it, so I’ve tagged this for a Staff assist.

Thanks Jennifer. I already checked all the pages and drafts (trash is empty) and no pages have that permalink!

Hi @Steve,
OK, so that was a pretty strange issue! The problem was that you did actually have a page set with a slug of “resources.” It was the page titled “Home.”
It wasn’t showing with any slug because you had set it as your front page. I took the liberty of adjusting that page to have a slug of “home” and you should now be able to set your “Resources” page to have a slug of resources instead of resources-2.
Let me know if you have any questions or other problems!

Yep, you had it Jen. It was just hiding because of the way that the page was set to be the front page. When a page is set to be the front page under Settings >> Reading, the slug gets obscured and it is only displayed as [blogname].wordpress.com instead of [blogname].wordpress.com/slug. Took a bit to remember that! :)
