Permalink not working (page not found)

  • Unknown's avatar

I tried to change the slug from the default “/?page_id=#” to /%postname%/ in the permalink settings, but the page disappears when I do. It then reappears when I change it back.

I previously made a site doing the same thing, but it worked before. The only thing that’s different this time is that I’m using a different web host… I’m at a complete loss as to what to do.

I’m new to wordpress and have no coding experience, so detailed instructions in layman terms would be extremely appreciated!

    Thanks so much in advance.

  • Hi there arcuatefasciculus,

tried to change the slug from the default

Could you clarify what site this is on? It kind of sounds like you might be using a DIY copy of WordPress with another host. If so you’d want to try checking in with your host first, then try the forums at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/ (you’ll need to sign up there.)

We do offer direct support for sites hosted here though! And, while you wouldn’t be able to change permalink settings for most plans, we do provide direct support for paid plans, plus a bunch of extra built in features, SSL, managed security, and more.

If you’re interested in moving over so we can provide more help, let us know. We’re happy to answer any questions you might have.
