Permalink Settings change and keep old URLs redirection issue
-
I am changing my blog permalink settings from ‘/year/month/day/post_name’ to ‘/year/month/day/post_id’. In fact, It will be effective immediately, and all post URLs will adapt new URL pattern in my blog.
However, For the old post URLs (being bookmarked by client/Google/printed material), some of them are still valid to redirect to the correct post, but some will be failed and redirect to the incorrect post under the redirect_canonical() core function.
For example, the old URL ‘https://mydomain/2021/01/01/happy-new-year/’ will redirect to the new pattern URL with post_id, but the post content is ‘https://mydomain/1999/01/01/happy-new-year/’, seems the same post_name – ‘happy-new-year’ is detected.
My question is, is it possible keep the old URLs redirect correctly when I change the permalink setting?
Thanks! -

Hello,
The website is under construction, sorry for not able to provide that.
However, would like to know more about the impact of permalink settings change, is the old post URLs (post permalink) still accessible? and the logic flow of redirect_canonical() core function, is it autocomplete the URL with post name only?
Thanks a lot! -
Hello there,
Is the site hosted with WordPress.com?
The reason why I ask is because if the site is a self-hosted WordPress site, you would need to seek help from your hosting provider or theme developer on that permalink query.
Many thanks in advance.
