Permalinks get a 404 error

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a number of wordpress sites on different domains.
When I select the permalink to show the post name and save it then test use the permalink I get a 404 error – page not found. This is happening to all my wordpress sites.
However, when I change it to date and time it to plain it works fine. Any suggestion on how to fix this? I’ve checked the forums and there doesn’t seem to be a clear answer – I’m sure I’m not the only one.
If anyone has a clear answer, please let me know.
    Thanks.

    Hi,

This forum is for WordPress.com sites and accounts. I’m not familiar with the options that you refer to with regard to a permalink (“show the post name,” “change it to date and time it to plain”). Are you referring to a WordPress.com site? If so, then see the How do I edit permalink? topic.

WordPress.com and WordPress.org are different versions of WordPress, with different support forums. See the WordPress.com and WordPress.org support page.

If the site you are seeking support for is a self-hosted WordPress.org site, then please resubmit your request to the WordPress.org support forums. If you haven’t already done so, you may register here: https://wordpress.org/support/register.php, to use the WordPress.org support forums.
