Permalinks management in WordPress.com
-
I do know that permalink management for blog posts is not available at wordpress.com, but we would like to know if enabling this functionality is in your roadmap with any of the plans. If you have an estimated date, we would like to know it because we would be very interested to migrate a blog to wordpress.com and permalinks is now a stopper.
Another question is probably related to the previous one. We have a custom domain and we want to load the blog
home
on a specific folder different from
root
. For instance, the blog main page would be in http://www.example.com/main/blog/ instead of http://www.example.com/. Blog posts URL should start with /main/blog/, http://www.example.com/main/blog/2017/07/19/my-post. Is there any way to have this working on wordpress.com?
Thanks in advance!

Hi @danielcheca, I’ve noted your request in an idea file we keep. I don’t have an ETA on that since it isn’t currently in the plans.
The business plan allows you to upload plugins and what not, though, and you could likely find a way to add /main/blog to your URLs. Though honestly, for SEO consideration, it may be better to leave the /main/blog part out and use a redirect to fix existing links.
You might also look into vip.wordpress.com since that allows even more customization.
Let me know if you have other questions!

Oh, also, I’ve moved your post to our Ideas forum.
If you run across idea posts, feel free to flag them and have us move them, @timethief :) Thanks for your help!

Hi @timethief/@supernovia,
Thanks for the reply. The “/main/blog/” path was just an example, the real path is another one.
We have a complete enterprise web application on an existing domain and we use the blog to improve SEO. So part of the URL requests will be redirected to our webapp and some others to the blog.
Basically we wanted to get rid of the hosting management and that’s why we were interested in hosting externally. I think that enabling permalink management can be applied to many other companies with a similar scenario.
Best regards!

You bet @danielcheca. It sounds like you have a pretty specialized setup. But you might check in with our VIP team to see if they’d be able to do this.
